Lipotropics Definition
What Are Lipotropics?

Lipotropic means fat-loving. Basically they are substances which can liquefy or homogenize fats. Also known as "fat-burners." Lipotropics are the nutrients that promote or encourage the export of fat from the liver. Choline, methionine, inositol etc are examples for lipotropics. Lipotropics are necessary for the maintenance of a healthy liver as well as burning the exported fat for additional energy. Without lipotropics such as choline and inositol, fats and bile can become trapped in the liver, causing severe problems such as cirrhosis and blocking fat metabolism. The main functions of the lipotropics are; increase the production of lecithin by the liver, prevent the accumulation of fats in the liver, detoxify amines (byproducts of protein metabolism), increase resistance to diseases by stimulating the production of antibodies, stimulating the growth of phagocytes, which surround and gobble up invading viruses and microbes and by recognizing and destroying foreign and abnormal tissue.
