Vitamin E Definition
What Is Vitamin E?

Any of various oily fat-soluble liquid vitamins whose absence in the body is associated with such ailments as infertility, the breakdown of muscles, and vascular problems which are found especially in leaves and seed germ oils. Vitamin E is also known as anti-sterility or fertility vitamin, a generic descriptor for a group of fat-soluble compounds essential for reproduction in animals. Two main groups of compounds have vitamin E activity: the tocopherols and the tocotrienols. The richest sources of Vitamin E include wheatgerm oil, sunflower oil, and roasted peanuts. There is a growing body of good evidence that vitamin E supplements may offer some protection against atherosclerosis and heart disease. It has also been suggested that supplements may reduce the risk of miscarriages, but this suggestion is disputed.
