If you want to get a good burn in your traps, try this for size:

Take about 70% of your normal dumbbell weight you would use for shrugs, go to the standing calf-raise machine and lower the shoulder pads as low as possible. Holding the dumbbells in each hand as for normal shrugs and while standing with your feet flat on the ground move in under the shoulder pads as you would normally do for standing calf raises.Use about 80% of your normal weight for shrugs and adjust the calf machine to this amount of weight. Now perform your normal set of shrugs while the calf machine is pressing down on your shoulders. Take note that with this move you will not be able to roll your shoulders while performing this exercise. The reason you can use about 150% of the normal weight for shrugs is because all the weight is not in your palm grip as for normal shrugs. Is there a name for this exercise? If not call it shrug- raises.
